French Hierarchy
king - clopin trouillefouThe sole king of France. Once the king of gypsies, he somehow managed to make his way into the actual monarchy. No one but him knows how. His word is law, and he is always accompanied by his two guard dogs, Dante and Virgil.adviser - [open]The prime minister of France, dismissible only by the monarch.heir - n/aThey are legally entitled to the throne on the reigning monarch's death.duc(duke) - [open]The highest possible title behind the king and his immediate family. There are five, ruling over various parts of France. They report to the king.
marquis - [open]
Trusted to defend and fortify against potentially hostile neighbors in their respective regions. There are five, and they are second in command to the duc, and report directly to them.
comte(earl) - [open]
They rank below the marquis, and are expected to report to them. Their primary job is to oversee their massive estates and businesses, and to make sure all is well within the regions ruled by the ducs.
parlement - [open for several positions]
They are the sole council that oversees legislation and justice in France. They operate out of the Palace of Justice.
palace guards - [open]
Highly-trained, experienced veterans that keep the palace safe. They usually answer to the advisor.
city guards - [open]
City guards patrol their respective cities and report to the comtes.Occupations
militaire(military)- [open]
They keep the country safe from encroaching enemies and wild monsters. These brave men and women train against the possibility that they'll have to protect their country with their lives. Such occupations include, but are not limited to, crossbowmen, mercenaries, scouts, archers, etc.
criminels(criminals)- [open]
As with any society, criminals run amok, from corrupt officials to "professional" criminals. Occupations include, but are not limited to, burglars, outlaws, pickpockets, fences(dealer in stolen goods), murderers, etc. This would also include Clopin's "secret" assassin ring, designated to dispose of political enemies.
religion- [open]
Those who are occupied with religious pursuits mediate between earth and God. Occupations include, but are not limited to, the Archdeacon, bishops, priests, monks, nuns, etc.
marchands(merchants)- [open]
They sell goods related to their trade, mostly the results of their own labor. Occupations include, but are not limited to, bankers, taverners, barkeeps, wine sellers, spice merchants, etc.
artistes(artists)- [open]
Artists and entertainers! Occupations include, but are not limited to, musicians, playwrights, painters, poets, troubadours, sculptors, writers, etc.
fermiers(farmers)- [open]
Without them, the country would starve. Wresting sustenance from the very earth itself. There's a large number of occupations associated with farming: you need people to watch the animals, work the fields. Occupations include, but are not limited to, farmers, foresters, horse trainers, hunters, masters of hounds, plowmen, shepherds, etc.
spécialistes(scholars)- [open]
Those who are a little more "enlightened" than most, who have the will to learn about the world around them. Occupations include, but are not limited to, alchemists, astronomers, scientists, mathematicians, scribes, philosophers, etc.
civils(civilians)- [open]
Those without occupations. These include housewives, beggars, peasants, pilgrims, etc.
artisans- [open]
Those who are skilled in a trade, and who most often have their own guild. Occupations include, but are not limited to, blacksmiths, tailors, shoemakers, masons, carpenters, weavers, butchers, glovers, etc.
