French Law
I. THE KING'S WORD IS LAW.
Failure to follow may result in being brought before Clopin himself. And from what he is known to say, it's the sentence that's really the fun...
II. CRIMES AGAINST THE KING OR COUNTRY SHALL NOT GO UNPUNISHED.
Greater crimes are under the authority of the king and his counsel, while lesser crimes are handled by either the marquis or comte of the offender's particular region. Petty and commercial crimes go to lower courts and city tribunals, while felonies such as murder and treason go straight to higher courts, such as the Cours des Aides, or Parlement, depending on the felony.
III. THE COUR DES AIDES & CHAMBRE DES MONNAIES OVERSEE ALL FINANCIAL AFFAIRS.
The Cours des Aides(Court of Aids) handles taxes on all imports and exports, and the Chambre des Monnaies(Currency Court) handles matters of currency.
IV. THE CHURCH HANDLES ALL MATTERS OF OATHS AND SACRAMENTS.
The Church and the Archbishop control matters that involve oaths and the sacraments: testaments, marriage and divorce, and some business contracts. They also handle all matters of heresy and cases involving clergymen. Punishments can include excommunication.
V. DIPLOMATS OF THE KING ARE NOT TO BE HARMED.
All diplomats representing King Clopin Trouillefou are protected by him. Should they be harmed during a diplomatic mission, the offenders will be extradited to France and be dealt with by the King and his counsel.
VI. THE ESTATES-GENERAL.
Only the King can call the Estates-General to order. They are representatives of the three estates(the clergy, the aristocracy, and the commoners), who meet to petition various issues and advise the King on the needs of his people.
